You may notice on my site that I have a page titled 101 Goals in 1001 Days. I figured I should explain the who, what, when, where, how, and why of that list of 101 things.
A while back, a friend of mine introduced me to the concept of planning out 101 goals to be completed in 1001 days. Since then, I’ve done this twice. I wish I had the very first one I made just out of law school–I have a strong feeling it would look entirely different, as I wrote it as a single woman, without kids, having just started my career, living in a new city. We’re probably talking night and day different.
For me, the idea is to help keep me focused on the things I’d like to accomplish, as life as a way of blocking my vision. It also is a way for me to make sure I’m maintaining balance in my life. As you’ll see in my list, I have tried to balance, fun and serious, work and personal/family, small and large, short term and longer term goals. When things feel like they’re moving too fast, getting off track, or I’ve been spending too much in the work lane, for example, I have this list to help get me back on track, whatever that may mean for me at that time.
Now, there are a few things to keep in mind when making your own goals. Typically, “they” say that you want a goal to be S.M.A.R.T.==Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time Bound. I’ve mostly stuck to these rules in my 101 in 1001 list, and I’m sure I’ll flush them out more as time goes by. Also, keep in mind that sometimes life throws curveballs and this list just has to sit on the back burner or needs a serious edit. Remember that that is ok, totally normal, and usually unavoidable. This list is meant to inspire, challenge, and inform you, but it is by no means the definition of someone’s self worth or the end all/be all for life goals.
As I finish my goals, I’ll write a post and link to it on the official 101 in 1001 page. I would LOVE it if you share some of your goals in the comments as well! Oh and, while I want to share as much as possible with you, dear reader, some things are not only mine to share or are just too personal for me right now to talk about. Maybe, after I get some blogging confidence, or when we meet the goals, I’ll share.
